Race Review: Gunstock TrailFest|New Hampshire

by

This is one of my favorite trail racing events out there! They have something for everyone—running experience doesn’t apply here! The races range from 5k’s to Ultramarathon distances.  This event is held at the end of June—next year 6/24 – 6/25 2023.

Gunstock TrailFest Logo

This is an excellent place for anyone to compete and have fun regardless of the length of time they’ve been running. Even if individuals haven’t ever run before but want to have fun with others in a fun, competitive way— this is the place to do it.

Gunstock TrailFest is held in Gilford, New Hampshire at Gunstock Mountain Resort. Gunstock has a campsite within walking distance of the event if you’d like to stay on a budget, unlike myself renting a B&B with a bunch of friends.

This is a family-friendly event. Even your kids can compete in a 1.5k kids run. You can run a 5k for owners and their dogs if you have a dog.

Event Format:

Saturday Races:

  • Early Canine 5k: For those with their pooch.
  • 1.5k for the Kiddos
  • Peak to Peak 10k
  • A regular trail 5k for everyone (See Video)

Sunday Races: These are for the more experienced runners. All races are conducted on a 10K loop. A trail 10K, 30k, 50k, and an 80k

Food, Drinks, and Entertainment:

Beers and buffet-style food are included with the purchase of any of the distances listed above races. They even have live music—a real band and all.

Merch:

Everyone receives a cool metal water bottle and a t-shirt for participating. They also sell trucker hats and race caps.

I went with my friends this year, and we had a blast. My friends went to support me in my 30k endeavor—placed first in my age group—but we all ran the 5k on Saturday, they got so energized that they also ran the 10k on Sunday while I was running my 30k, and they aren’t runners.

This is a great place to ease into trail running or, for experienced runners, A great place to run solo or with a support team.
